Shiatsu session

Shiatsu originated in Japan but is heavily influenced by the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, particularly the concept of Qi (pronounced "chee"). Qi is believed to be the vital energy that flows through the body along specific pathways called meridians. According to TCM theory, imbalances or blockages in the flow of Qi can lead to illness or discomfort. Shiatsu aims to restore balance to the flow of Qi to promote health and well-being. It is a more dynamic massage than a Swedish massage, and incorporates more movement and stretching. The receiver is fully clothed, it is best to wear sweatpants or leggings and a T-shirt for comfort.

Here's an overview of shiatsu and some of its health benefits:

  1. More Balanced Energy Flow: Shiatsu aims to balance the flow of energy, or Qi, through the body's meridians. By applying pressure to specific points along these meridians, shiatsu practitioners aim to remove blockages and restore the smooth flow of energy.

  2. Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Like other forms of massage therapy, shiatsu can promote relaxation and help reduce stress levels. The rhythmic pressure applied during a shiatsu session can calm the nervous system and promote a sense of well-being.

  3. Pain Relief: Shiatsu can help alleviate various types of pain, including muscle tension, headaches, and joint pain. By targeting specific points on the body, shiatsu can help release tension and promote pain relief.

  4. Improved Circulation: The pressure applied during shiatsu can stimulate blood flow and improve circulation throughout the body. This can help deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues more effectively and aid in the removal of toxins.

  5. Enhanced Range of Motion: Shiatsu techniques can help improve flexibility and range of motion by releasing tension in muscles and joints. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with stiffness or mobility issues.

  6. Improved Immune Function: Some research suggests that shiatsu may have immune-boosting effects by reducing stress levels and promoting relaxation. A stronger immune system can help the body better defend against illness and disease.
